Objectives of the Course
To teach that the concept of ethnicity or the concepts of ethnic minority are still vague concepts in sociology. To show that definition of movements of ethnic nationalism in terms of these concepts would be relative.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Can ımprove the level of knowledge in the field of sociology. PO-1 1-Have an advanced level of knowledge about the recent and best practices in Sociology, deepen and expand their knowledge on the expert level, conduct and assess the analyses by employing statistical methods.

LO-2 In every activity related to the field of professional knowledge and skills critically can evaluate. PO-5 5-Evaluate the knowledge and skills in a critical way in every activity regarding the field, thereby guiding their learning.

LO-3 Current developments and their work in sociology, the field of quantitative and qualitative data, and the outside groups can support them with written, oral and visual transfers systematically. PO-9 9-Transfer in a systematical way the latest developments in Sociology and their field of study reinforcing with qualitative and quantitative data to the groups either concerned with the field or not by verbal, visual and written means.

Course Contents
Concepts of ethnicity and ethnic group will be defined. the concept of minority will be defined. To teach how the concepts of ethnic and minority are met in Turkish and American sociology. Some ethnic minorities in Turkey will be compared with minorities in the U.S. the sociological characteristics of ethnic movements will be explained.
