Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is teaching deterioration in concrete and reinforced concrete caused by physical, chemical and biologic reactions and, classifying the environmental influence on concrete.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Recognizes the durability problems that can be encountered in reinforced concrete elements. PO-1 Recovery adequate knowledge in the field of mathematics, science and civil engineering; ability to use theoretical and applied information in these areas to model and solve Civil Engineering problems.
Examination
LO-2 It chooses durable material for the production of reinforced concrete elements in places subject to durability problems. PO-4 Skill of development, selection, using modern techniques and tools are necessary for engineering applications, ability of using information technology effectively.

LO-3 Gains knowledge about the basic properties and corrosion of reinforced concrete steel. PO-1 Recovery adequate knowledge in the field of mathematics, science and civil engineering; ability to use theoretical and applied information in these areas to model and solve Civil Engineering problems.
LO-4 It provides solutions to the durability problems encountered in reinforced concrete elements with the possibilities of current material technology. PO-4 Skill of development, selection, using modern techniques and tools are necessary for engineering applications, ability of using information technology effectively.

Course Contents
General properties of concrete, void structure of concrete, physical deterioration in reinforced concrete elements, chemical deterioration in reinforced concrete elements, reinforced concrete and corrosion, concrete exposed to sea water, shrinkage and creep in concrete, lateral stress effect in reinforced concrete element, importance of stirrup reinforcement.
