History

History Nevsehir University, Faculty of Fine Arts was founded in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers which is dated 31.03.2008 and No. 2008/13467 published in Official Gazette in 2008 with No.26848. The Department of Music and Performing Arts was founded in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 of Law No. 2880, as amended by Law No. 2547 on 20.01.2010 in the meeting of the Executive Board of the Higher Education.

Qualification Awarded The students, who achieve the programme, are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree certificate in the department of Music and Performing Arts.

Specific Admission Requirements

Specific Admission Requirements The students must have got a high school or an equivalent school certificate, have got sufficient score in Student Selection Exam for the University, and have successfully passed the talent exam which is performed at two-stage in the field of Music and Performing Arts.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Specific Arrangement For Recognition Prior Learning The process of the recognition of prior learning in Turkish Higher Education Institutions is at starting point. So, the recognition of prior learning has not completely started yet in any programmes of Nevşehir University. However; some exemption exams are applied for some lessons such as Computer Technology or English at the beginning of both academic terms. The students who regard themselves as having the learning outcomes of these lessons can take the exams. And, the students who achieve these exams are exempted from these lessons.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Specific Arrangement For Recognition Prior Learning The process of the recognition of prior learning in Turkish Higher Education Institutions is at starting point. So, the recognition of prior learning has not completely started yet in any programmes of Nevşehir University. However; some exemption exams are applied for some lessons such as Computer Technology or English at the beginning of both academic terms. The students who regard themselves as having the learning outcomes of these lessons can take the exams. And, the students who achieve these exams are exempted from these lessons.


Profile of The Programme

The Profile of the Programme The programme has academics who are expert in their own fields. It is intended to carry out the required studies with the lessons. The study fields of the department are the Classical Music, Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Art Music. The aim is to train students as individuals with the skills of the field. The students are required to be successful in the professional exams that they will have in future. In addition; the aim is to make the students to work as a teacher in both public and private schools after having their post-graduate, and to train the students as talented and well-equipped artists in national or international area. The shareholders with which the Department of Music and Performing Arts interact- or is expected to- are following: TUBITAK, DPT, TRT, MESAM, different institutions or organizations that are attached to the ministries,especially to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Universities, Research Centers, Institutes,etc.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 Students who successfully complete the Department of Music and Performing Arts recognize the basic concepts related to their programs
PO-2 Are familiar with the formation and harmonization of scales, accompanying chords, cadences, secondary dominants, creating chords of triphonic and quadraphonic sounds, modal change chords and tension sounds.
PO-3 Have a basic knowledge of music such as the names, places and values of musical notes, measurement systems, musical signs, arrays and intervals and tonality etc.They are also familiar with the basic rules, techniques and terms of music, able to read musical notes and write what they hear in musical notes.
PO-4 Have acquired the necessary knowledge on the history of Turkish and Western Music.
PO-5 Can perform basic pieces of music that belong to various periods and require different techniques accompanied by musical instruments and sounds.
PO-6 Can use their voice efficiently in accord with their anatomy and physiology while speaking and singing songs, have acquired the articulation and manner of speaking habits in accordance with the phonology of the language they speak
PO-7 Build up their repertory of nursery rhymes accompanying them with a musical instrument
PO-8 Plays in music communities and manages them.
PO-9 Are familiar with the history and development of Art.
PO-10 Collect the necessary data for the solutions to the problems encountered in their fields of study.
PO-11 Have a necessary knowledge of what the forms of Turkish Music are, how to compose a piece of music and composing techniques.
PO-12 Are familiar with the types of instruments used in the Traditional Turkish Art Music, practice listening familiar with the theoretical knowledge on the basic modes and methods
PO-13 Can recognize where the forms of the Traditional Turkish Art Music originate and perfom them
PO-14 Analyse the harmonization rules of repertory in polyphony used from time to time and pieces of music created on these rules

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Occupational Profiles of Graduates The graduates may have the opportunity to work as a researcher, singer or performer in the field of music in the relevant departments of Universities, in music communities of Ministry of Culture, in the organizations of TRT or in Symphony Orchestra. In addition; they may work at corporations, municipalities, foundations or at private institutions. Also; the graduates who wish to specialize in their areas of interest will be able to continue the Master’s Degree or PhD in the faculties.


Access to Further Studies

Access to Further Studies The students who achieve the Bachelor’s Degree can study in graduate programs if they get adequate score in Academic Graduate-Education Exam (ALES), have sufficient English language skills and music knowledge.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading All the students have to register for the courses at the beginning of each term, and have to join at least % 70 of all the courses and % 80 of all the practices in order to be able to have final exams. The students have at least 1 mid-term exam and 1 final exam for each course. The mid-term exam contributes %40 and the final exam contributes %60 to total grade. All the exams are assessed over 100 scoring system. And, the students who get one of the letter Marks such as ( AA ), ( BA ), ( BB ), ( CB ), and ( CC ) are accepted to achieve the course. The letter Marks such as (DC) and (DD) mean contidionally successful. Moreover, a student is required to get at least 2.0 Grade Point Average ( GPA ) in order to be successful in the course whose work is ( DC ) or ( DD ).


Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirements The students are required to get at least 2.0 Grade Point Average ( GPA ) on 4.00 in total, and to complete the dissertation successfully in order to be able to achieve the programme.

Facilities

Facilities There are 3 Assistant Professor Doctors, 1 Senior Lecturer and 3 Research Assistants in the department of Music and Performing Arts. There are 4 classrooms, 1 library, 1 computer lab with a capacity of 20 computers, 1 performing stage, 14 study rooms and 11 rooms for the academic staff.
