VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF NEVŞEHİR / TOURISM AND TRAVEL SERVICES

History

Nevsehir University Vocational College was founded in accordance with the Articles 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2880, as amended by Law No.2547 by the General Meeting of Turkish Council of Higher Education in 24 March 2000 that the Council make a decision in this date. Tourism and Travel Services Program started education semester in 2001-2002, for evening classes 2005-2006. Medium of instruction is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 120 ECTS) and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are given an associate degree diploma in Tourism and Travel Services Program.

Specific Admission Requirements

In Turkey it is necessary that students to pass the YGS (Transition to Higher Education Examination) and LYS (Undergraduate Placement Examination). It is possible to get associate degree programs through the scores taken from YGS or without examination. The only way to enter a program in University is through these tests’ scores. The students make choices in order of preference to be admitted to the programs they want to attend and send their preference form to ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). ÖSYM takes all the applications, lists the scores the students have received from highest to lowest and announces the current programs according to the scores placing the students in the programs they have preferred. The foreign students get placed in a University, allocated a certain number of quota students in our country, as per the scores they have received on the central exam named YÖS (University Entrance Examination for International Students). Documents required for the enrollment process are: • Diplomas of High Schools and their equivalents • The Document of Student Placement Exam results by ÖSYM


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, recognition of the prior learning is at the beginning level. As a consequence, for all programs of Nevsehir University recognition of prior learning has not been started yet. An exemption exam for English courses is held at the beginning of academic year. Students,who get the expected learning outcomes, have the chance of attending exams. The students who pass the exam are exempted from that course both in Fall and Spring term.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain an Associate Degree in Tourism and Travel Servvices Program, students must accomplish all compulsory and elective courses, a total of 120 ECTS, and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00. Besides, they must have completed 30 work internship.


Profile of The Programme

The objective of this program is to educate qualified employees that the Turkish and world tourism sector needs, have theoretical and sectorel experience in the field of Tourism and Travel Services Program, use computer technologies, arrange the tickets of national and foreign airlines at the international standards, have an ability to make a decision and practise, follow the recent improvement in the Tourism and Travel Sector, have a strong and successful communication skills, use foreign language actively and apply them to standards of IATA (International Air Transport Association) open to newness and have a modern vision.In Vocational School Tourism and Travel Services Program, vocational courses are taught both theoretical and practical. Thereotical courses are performed in the school, practical courses are performed in the travel agencies, ballon sector, and other businesses with teaachers because Cappadocia Region has touristic attractions. Each student has to complete 30 day internship in the businesses that administration determine the criteria except for educational period.

PO-1 The students who have completed the program successfully: 1. Describe basic concepts about Tourism and Travel Services Program.
PO-2 Know legal arrangements and business standards in the field of Tourism and Travel Services Program.
PO-3 Know the internal and external environmental factors that Tourism and Travel Services Program can be affected.
PO-4 Know how to organize and present information, presentation, guiding, transportation, meetings-congress organizations, and other services.
PO-5 Easily apply the theoretical and practical knowledge gained from school and internship in the sector.
PO-6 Know how computer automation systems work in Travel Businesses and use these systems .
PO-7 Speak one foreign language at level A2 Europe Language Portfolio.
PO-8 Analyse the problems that encounter in the sector with theoretical and practical experience and produce solutions.
PO-9 Have strong communication skills and have a good teamwork.
PO-10 Communicate effectively and positively with their juniors and seniors.
PO-11 Have an ability to work under work load, stress, and pressure.
PO-12 Know the practices of agency operations, tour planning, tour operations, operation management and participate in them actively.
PO-13 Know and apply making reservation, coordinating with hotel and other accomodation businesses, managing customer relations, calculations, and accounting and registering.
PO-14 Participate in team work as a team member in sales marketing, congress and fair organizations.
PO-15 Know how to make reservation and ticketing about all travel agencies who provide transportation services and participate in them actively.
PO-16 Help their collegues that work together and make them progress constantly.
PO-17 Respect seniors and by fullfilling the tasks completely, produce their own solutions in the crisis situation.
PO-18 Prepare the report regarding their tasks and present them to their seniors.
PO-19 Help colleagues by doing the tasks apart from their own in extraordinary situations.
PO-20 Cling to national and ethical values and give importance to these values.
PO-21 Follow professional innovations and improve themselves constantly.

NQF-HETR Program Outcomes Matrices

Our graduates deserve the title of " Professional Employee".They can work as a " Tour Operator or Conference Organizer" and can have their own business office. After two year degree, they can continue four years undergradute education as a result of DGS ( Degree Completion Exam ). In addition, students that have completed two year degree program can enter four years Open University regarding their own study field without examination and continue from the third grade. The graduates of this program can be appointed as a civil servant if they get the required point from KPSS ( Civil Servant Selection Examination )


Access to Further Studies

After completing associate degree programs successfully, students may have undergraduate programs through DGS ( Degree Completion Exam ), and may study these programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register in the beginning of each semester and in order to participate in the final examination, students must have attended at least 70% of the courses and 80 % of the practices. The students are subjected at least one mid-term examination and the final examination for each course. The mid-term examination’s (assessment methods like assignments, laboratory examinations, quizzes, etc. can be calculated as mid-term grade) contribution to the final grade is 40% and final examination counts for 60% of the final grade. In order to be successful in a course, the final grade must be at least 45. If a student have these grades such as AA, BA, BB, CB and CC, it means they are successful. DC and DD grades are conditional success grades. That means if a student have these grades for some courses, he has to have at least a 2.0 GPA so that he will be successful in the mentioned courses.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the program successfully it is required to pass all courses in the program (120 ECTS), to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and to complete internship successfully.

Facilities

In Vocational School, educational activities are conducted with 2 associate assistant, and 25 lecturers. Courses are performed in the classes having the capacity of 45 people and projection and in the computer labs. Students can benefit from internet labs and libraries all day. Also, there is a conference room that many events happen.
