Objectives of the Course | |||||
The aim of this course is to provide students with information about the definition of mental health, its basic concepts, historical development, psychological development periods in children and adolescents, basic knowledge and skills about children's mental problems, behavioral disorders and their causes. |

Definition and importance of mental health. Historical development and theories about mental health. Stages of mental health. Children’s books. Effects of television, sinema and internet on developmental stages. Mental development: concept of intelligence, factors affecting intelligence, multiple intelligence, mental retardation.Family: family dynamics, inter-family relations, communication between siblings. Raising a child: attachment, moral education, sexual education. Travmatic experiences and child: diseases, death, emigration, marriage problems and divorcement, sibling relations, being a step mom, step father or step child, socioeconomical problems, child abuse. Issues in mental health: adaptation problems, fears, dependence, stuttering, tics, enuresis, encopresis, autism, behavioural problems. Development in adolescence: physical development, cognitive development, emotional development, psychosexual development, social development, intergenerational conflicts, psychological problems. Researches in Turkey about child mental health. Children’s rights. | ||
