Objectives of the Course
To show communication between individuals and societies and to show how they will be discussed and examined as a sociological social institution by emphasizing the importance of social dimension of communication.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Can have knowledge about sociology's research and research areas and can know mass communication theories. PO-1 1-Have an advanced level of knowledge about the recent and best practices in Sociology, deepen and expand their knowledge on the expert level, conduct and assess the analyses by employing statistical methods.
PO-4 4-Have the qualification and capability to gain admission to doctoral programs, R&D units or occupations related to the field with the knowledge they have gathered in the field.
PO-9 9-Transfer in a systematical way the latest developments in Sociology and their field of study reinforcing with qualitative and quantitative data to the groups either concerned with the field or not by verbal, visual and written means.
LO-2 Can interpret the theoretical debates about the relationship between factors such as structures, actors, institutions and culture in global politics, and identify the continuities and changes in the basic dynamics of the international system. PO-3 3-Make use of the knowledge they have in order to find a solution to problems by analyzing, comparing and questioning them and can carry out original research in the related field on their own.
PO-5 5-Evaluate the knowledge and skills in a critical way in every activity regarding the field, thereby guiding their learning.
PO-10 10-Monitor and supervise the social, scientific, cultural and ethical values in the process of collecting, interpreting, implementing and publishing the data related to the field of Sociology and teach those values.
LO-3 Can identify regional and global issues, problems, and develop evidence-based and research-based solutions. PO-2 2-Plan experiments and carry out original researches in the field by making use of the theoretical and practical knowledge at the expert level that they have obtained in their field.
PO-7 7-Are able to make use of computer software as well as communication and information technology required by the field of Sociology at an advanced level.
PO-8 8-Evaluate how the important personalities, events and phenomena that have made essential contributions to the development of Sociology that might have impact on their field of practice.

Course Contents
After revealing the inadequacies of communication researches and theories in terms of explaining communication in the sociological context, a new proposal for explanation is presented which can respond to all the related periods and developments. It focuses on the connection of communication to society, its social bases are explained based on the beginning of community life, and communication systems in different civilizations are examined in order to test the validity of the developed explanation model in various historical periods. It also focuses on the appearance of communication in today's world.
