Objectives of the Course
The objective of the course is to introduce students to an in-depth study of the concepts, methods, and policy issues in economic development. This course examines the determinants of underdevelopment and poverty in developing countries and analyzes strategies to promote economic development and poverty reduction. Core topics include: theories of growth and development, human dimensions of development such as population, poverty and inequality. We will then proceed to examine selected topics and issues in agricultural development and development management, the expected gains from international trade, the political economy of government behavior and reform.
