Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide information about the history and basic concepts of human psychology from ancient Greece to the present.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Explain conceptions of the human being in Ancient Greek, Islamic, and Christian medieval philosophical traditions. PO-2 Adapts and transfers the knowledge they have acquired in the field of psychology to other disciplines
PO-9 Has awareness of individual and cultural differences that can incorporate different perspectives into the process of producing scientific knowledge.
PO-14 Has a basic level of knowledge of the fields of social sciences such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology and the fields of science such as biology and neuroscience, and uses this knowledge to develop psychology skills and to follow contemporary scientific publications.
Examination
LO-2 Describe key approaches and problems related to the human mind emerging in the modern era, particularly with Descartes. PO-1 Knows the basic concepts related to psychology.
PO-2 Adapts and transfers the knowledge they have acquired in the field of psychology to other disciplines
PO-14 Has a basic level of knowledge of the fields of social sciences such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology and the fields of science such as biology and neuroscience, and uses this knowledge to develop psychology skills and to follow contemporary scientific publications.
Examination
LO-3 Analyze central problems in the philosophy of mind (e.g., mind-body dualism, consciousness, qualia, irreducibility) using philosophical thought experiments. PO-2 Adapts and transfers the knowledge they have acquired in the field of psychology to other disciplines
PO-14 Has a basic level of knowledge of the fields of social sciences such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology and the fields of science such as biology and neuroscience, and uses this knowledge to develop psychology skills and to follow contemporary scientific publications.
Examination
LO-4 Compare the foundational assumptions and philosophical backgrounds of major schools in modern psychology (e.g., structuralism, behaviorism, Gestalt, psychoanalysis, humanism, existentialism). PO-2 Adapts and transfers the knowledge they have acquired in the field of psychology to other disciplines
PO-14 Has a basic level of knowledge of the fields of social sciences such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology and the fields of science such as biology and neuroscience, and uses this knowledge to develop psychology skills and to follow contemporary scientific publications.

Course Contents
First of all, the basic subjects and concepts about how people were handled in Ancient Greece, Medieval Islamic and Christian Philosophy are discussed. Afterwards, concepts such as human and human psychology, philosophy of mind are introduced in the modern period that started with Descartes. Finally, schools of psychology and philosophical debates about these schools are discussed.
