Objectives of the Course
Identification of rocks and minerals in laboratory environment and field and give information about their ground characteristics, some engineering specifications

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Be abble to explain the main rock types. PO-1 An ability to apply knowledge of basic engineering sciences and earth sciences for the solution of geological engineering problems.
PO-2 An ability to identify, formulate, and solve geological engineering problems and knowledge of contemporary issues.
PO-6 An ability to design and carry out experiments, collect data, analyze results and interpret them in order to investigate problems of geological engineering.
Examination
LO-2 Be able to define the rock forming minerals and their properties. PO-1 An ability to apply knowledge of basic engineering sciences and earth sciences for the solution of geological engineering problems.
PO-2 An ability to identify, formulate, and solve geological engineering problems and knowledge of contemporary issues.
PO-4 An ability to obtain to determine, identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems and with this purpose in mind, to be able to choose proper methods of analysis and modeling.
PO-6 An ability to design and carry out experiments, collect data, analyze results and interpret them in order to investigate problems of geological engineering.

Course Contents
Classification of rocks, classification of rock-forming minerals, physical properties of minerals, mineral chemistry, physical properties of magma, texture in igneous rocks, naming of igneous rocks, formation and classification of sedimentary rocks, definition of metamorphism and metamorphic rocks.
