GULSEHIR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES / BANKING AND INSURANCE

History

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Gülşehir Social Sciences Vocational School was founded in 17/09/2009 with the 4637-030117 numbered decision of Higher Education Council. Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Gülşehir Social Sciences Vocational School Banking and Insurance department started its associate degree training in 2009-2010 academic year. In addition to normal formal education. Education language is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

The students who complete the available courses of the department successfully and get 2.00 GPA out of 4.00 are given Banking and Insurance Associate Degree certificate.

Specific Admission Requirements

In our country, for entry into universities, it is required to be successful in the exam conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). Students send their preference forms to the Student Selection and Placement Center by examining the available programs for their preferences according to their exam scores. OSYM takes all the applications, groups applications according to the type of scores, orders the scores highest to lowest, lists all of the existing programs according to the preferred type of scores and places the students one of their preferred programs. Selection of foreign students who will attend the universities in our country is possible within a certain quota according to results of a test called Examination for Foreign Students (YOS). Documents required for registration; 1- High School or equivalent education certificate, 2- Document of the placement prepared by OSYM.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The process of recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions is at an early stage yet. Therefore, at all programs of Nevsehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University the recognition of prior learning is not fully initialized. However, for the courses that are in education program such as computer and English, exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic semester. Students who believe that they have the expected learning outcomes have right to join to the exams. The students who are successfull in these exams are exempt from the related course.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain an associate degree in Banking and Insurance, students should complete all of their compulsory and elective courses successfully (120 ECTS in total) and should have at least 2.00 GPA out of 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

The main objective of the Banking and Insurance Program is to meet the need for personnel who are self-educated and capable of working in the banking and insurance sectors, where there is an intense competitive environment, and who can respond to the needs of the sector. The aim is for the students who graduate from this program to be trained as solution-oriented bankers and insurers who are equipped with practical knowledge in banking and insurance, who are well-versed in relevant legislation. Another objective of the program is to train qualified personnel who are suitable for the changing and developing conditions of Türkiye in banking and insurance and who can take part in every branch of the sector from the moment they graduate. The Banking and Insurance Program carries out its internal and external activities and duties through the Vocational School to which it is affiliated and the Rectorate as the parent organization. The program tries to provide the best service to its students with its faculty members. The courses prepared in line with the needs of the sector are held in modern classrooms supported by computer laboratories. The 20-day internship application in the Banking and Insurance program ensures that students adapt to market conditions while they are still in the education and training process and increases their professional competence.

PO-9 9. Refresh themselves by following the developments in banking and insurance.
PO-10 10. Know Atatürk’s principles and reforms and protect them.
PO-11 11. Have foreign language skills at the overall level of A2 of European Language Portfolio. (at least to follow up the information in the field and communicate with colleagues.)
PO-12 12. Use basic communication and information technologies in accordance with computer software that is required by the department at least European Computer Operating Licence basic level.
PO-13 Build spoken and written comminication both in Turkish and foreign language.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduates of this program may be the employee of both public and private banks in case they pass the entrance exams of related institutions. Besides this, they may take part in insurance companies as a company staff or as a worker in their branches.


Access to Further Studies

The students who complete the associate degree education successfully may atten undergraduate programs by entering the vertical transfer exam held by Student Selection and Placement Center.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

For each student, to register in pre-determined dates and enter the final examinations, it’s essential to continue at least %70 of the courses and %80 of applications. Students take at least 1 mid-term and 1 final exam for each course. The contribution of mid-terms is %40 and of final exams is %60 to achievement score. All the exams are evaluated out of 100. Student who take (AA),(BA),(BB),(CB) and (CC) are successfull. (DC) and (DD) are conditional grades. For a student, in order to be successful with (DC) and (DD) grades, his/her GPA should be at least 2.00.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete this programme successfully, it is required to pass all the available cources of the programme (120 ECTS) ,to get 2.00 GPA out of 4.00 and to complete 30 days of compulsory internship.

Facilities

In Banking and Insurance Program, education and training activities are carried out with 2 lecturers and 2 Dr. instructor It is carried out with its member. Courses are carried out in classes for 40 students and equipped with projection; and 1 computer lab is used effectively for academic studies.
