Information Of Programmes

VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF NEVŞEHİR / OFFICE SERVICES AND SECRETARIAT

History

Nevsehir University Vocational College was founded in accordance with the Articles 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2880, as amended by Law No.2547 by the General Meeting of Turkish Council of Higher Education in 24 March 2000 that the Council make a decision in this date. Office Management and Executive Asistant Program started education semester in 2001-2002, for evening classes 2002-2003. Medium of instruction is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 120 ECTS) and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are given an associate degree diploma in Office Management and Executive Asistant Program.

Specific Admission Requirements

In Turkey it is necessary that students to pass the YGS (Transition to Higher Education Examination) and LYS (Undergraduate Placement Examination). It is possible to get associate degree programs through the scores taken from YGS or without examination. The only way to enter a program in University is through these tests’ scores. The students make choices in order of preference to be admitted to the programs they want to attend and send their preference form to ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). ÖSYM takes all the applications, lists the scores the students have received from highest to lowest and announces the current programs according to the scores placing the students in the programs they have preferred. The foreign students get placed in a University, allocated a certain number of quota students in our country, as per the scores they have received on the central exam named YÖS (University Entrance Examination for International Students). Documents required for the enrollment process are: • Diplomas of High Schools and their equivalents • The Document of Student Placement Exam results by ÖSYM


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, recognition of the prior learning is at the beginning level. As a consequence, for all programs of Nevsehir University recognition of prior learning has not been started yet. An exemption exam for English courses is held at the beginning of academic year. Students,who get the expected learning outcomes, have the chance of attending exams. The students who pass the exam are exempted from that course both in Fall and Spring term.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain an Associate Degree in Office Management and Executive Asistant Program, students must accomplish all compulsory and elective courses, a total of 120 ECTS, and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00. Furthermore, they must have completed 30 work internship.


Profile of The Programme

Office Management and Executive Assistant Department offers a period of two years education after high school. Students are selected among graduates of reladed vocational high schools and also by National University Entrance Examination (Students Placement Exam, OSS). About 80 students are admitted each year. Students have to take and pass all compulsory courses and reach a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.00 before graduation. Furthermore, students are required to participate in a 30 days of internship in appropriate organizations. This programme intends to include all kinds of practical and theoretical aspects of the field of study and it aims to train students who are skilled in computers and other office equipments necessary in modern office management to furnish students with the knowledge and skills required in office management and foreign languages.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register in the beginning of each semester and in order to participate in the final examination, students must have attended at least 70% of the courses and 80 % of the practices. The students are subjected at least one mid-term examination and the final examination for each course. The mid-term examination’s (assessment methods like assignments, laboratory examinations, quizzes, etc. can be calculated as mid-term grade) contribution to the final grade is 40% and final examination counts for 60% of the final grade. In order to be successful in a course, the final grade must be at least 45. If a student have these grades such as AA, BA, BB, CB and CC, it means they are successful. DC and DD grades are conditional success grades. That means if a student have these grades for some courses, he has to have at least a 2.0 GPA so that he will be successful in the mentioned courses.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the program successfully it is required to pass all courses in the program (120 ECTS), to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and to complete internship successfully. Furthermore, they must have completed 30 work internship.

Facilities

In Vocational School, educational activities are conducted with 5 associate assistant, and 25 lecturers. Courses are performed in the classes having the capacity of 45 people and projection and in the computer labs. Students can benefit from internet labs and libraries all day. Also, there is a conference room that many events happen.
