AVANOS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS / ORGANIC FARMING

History

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Avanos Vocational School was established on 03 March 2009 with the Senate decision numbered 6. The Department of Crop and Animal Production and the Organic Farming Program within the department started formal education at Avanos Vocational School in 2009-2010 academic year. The language of education is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

The students who are able to pass all their lessons (equivalent to 120 AKTS in total) and have at least 2. 0 grade point avarage from 4.0 have two- year degree diploma in the field of Organic Farming.


Level of Qualification

Associate degree


Specific Admission Requirements

For this, candidates must apply to The Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) to take enough points from The Basic Proficiency Test (TYT).


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The process of recognizing previous study in the higher education institution is still front-end. Therefore recognizing previous study in all the programmes of Nevşehir University is not started completely. However, exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic year for the lessons such as English and Computer in the educational plans of the programmes. The students who think that they have the expected learning output can attend the exams held. The students attending and being succesful in the exam are exempt from the related lesson.

To have a two- year degree in the field of organic farming, the students must pass all the the compulsory and elective subjects (equivalent to 120 AKTS in total) which are neccesssary to be taken and have at least 2. 0 grade point avarage from 4.0.


Profile of The Programme

Organic Farming program; It aims to meet the technical staff needs of the rapidly developing organic agriculture sector in our country and in the world and to train technical staff who have technical knowledge in the field of current knowledge and use of new technologies.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 Ability to recognize and evaluate plants produced for organic farming purposes using basic knowledge and skills.
PO-2 In organic farming, the most appropriate cultivation technique is applied, taking into account the ecological conditions during the production phase.
PO-3 To be able to learn genetics and breeding issues in plant species.
PO-4 To be able to learn and apply plant propagation materials (seed, cuttings) production techniques.
PO-5 He/she follows modern agricultural techniques related to his/her field and puts them into practice.
PO-6 Ability to learn and apply plant nutrition, organic fertilization and irrigation methods.
PO-7 To be able to learn and apply methods of combating diseases and pests in plants.
PO-8 To be able to have knowledge about quality control, preservation and preparation of agricultural products for marketing.
PO-9 To be able to learn the basic issues required for the culture of plants.
PO-10 To be able to have knowledge about the tools and methods to be used in adopting new agricultural technologies to the producers.
PO-11 Having awareness of professional ethics and responsibility.
PO-12 To be able to carry out organic farming operations, carry out production and carry out production in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Agriculture Law and the Regulation on the Principles and Application of Organic Agriculture.
PO-13 He/she independently evaluates the problems and issues he/she encounters in his/her field with an analytical and critical approach and offers solution proposals.
PO-14 Ability to access all kinds of scientific information using computer and internet technologies.
PO-15 To be able to know and apply the necessary application procedures for starting and continuing organic farming, obtaining organic product certificate and logo.

The occupational areas of our program graduates are quite wide. The graduates of our program have the opportunity to work as technicians in the Provincial and District Directorate of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, organic farming enterprises, private sector organizations that will provide input to organic production (seed, organic fertilizer, organic agricultural struggle), organizations giving organic product certification, small and medium-sized agriculture industries (SMEs).


Access to Further Studies

Students can make the transition to upper-level programs and can be educated in the following undergraduate programs on the condition that they receive a valid grade from DGS. Horticulture, Horticultural production and marketing, Plant Protection, Plant production and Technologies, Biosystems Engineering. Organic Agriculture Management, Farming Economy, Engineering of agricultural machinery and technologies, Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Animal Science

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register for the lessons at the beginning of each semester and they must attend at least 70 percent of the classes and 80 percent of the practices to be able to attend the final exam. The students are subject to a mid-term exam and a final exam for each course. The contribution of the mid-term exam (the grades taken from homeworks, laboratory exams, quizzes can be added to the midterm exam ) to the final grade is 40 percent and the contribution of the final exam to the final grade is 60 percent. All the exams are evaluated from 100 points. There is a compulsory fort he students to take at least 45 points from the final exam. The students who are able to take one of the letter grades which are AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are thought to be succesful in that course. DC and DD are the grades which are thought to be succesful conditionally. The average grade of the students who take DD or DC from one of the courses must be at least 2.0.


Graduation Requirements

To finish the programme succesfully, passing all the lessons available( equivalent to 120 ECTS), having at least 2.0 average grade from 4.0, finishing a compulsory training education lasting 60 days are neccessary.

Facilities

In our program, education-teaching activities are carried out with 2 Asst. Prof Dr., and 5 Lecturers, but other university staffs who are experts in this field, can attend our departmental courses. In our program, courses are carried out in practice fields, crop animal production department laboratory, and the classroom with projection.
