VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES / CHILD DEVELOPMENT

History

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Vocational School of Health Services "Department of Child Care and Youth Services" "Child Development Program" started its formal education life in 2014-2015 academic year with primary and secondary education classes at associate degree level. The Child Development Program is the only secondary education program that provides education within the Health Services Vocational School. The language of instruction is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Students who have successfully completed all of the courses in the program (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS) and who have achieved a minimum 2.00 grade point average are awarded an associate degree in the Child Development Program of the Child Care and Youth Services Department.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the Child Development Associate Degree Program with the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) administered by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Those who have obtained a score of at least 150 and above in the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) score type are placed in this program within the quota in the Student Selection and Placement System (ÖSYS) selection process, they are entitled to enroll.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have completed secondary education or an equivalent education abroad and obtained the required score in the university exam can enroll in the program. In addition, students can enroll in the program through undergraduate transfer from an equivalent program of another higher education institution. For the transfer of the courses taken by these students from other higher education institutions, Nevşehir University Hacı Bektaş Veli University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education-Training Regulations, exemption and adjustment directive and Examination Regulations can be considered.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain an associate degree in the Department of Child Development, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS) in the program and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

The main goal of the Child Development Program is; Adopting the importance of child development and education, recognizing the developmental characteristics of children between the ages of 0 and 18, gaining knowledge about their habits and needs, aims to train qualified personnel who have the basic professional knowledge and infrastructure required by businesses. In addition, a plan suitable for various age levels in pre-school education institutions that can take precautions for the problems that children may encounter, get to know children who need special education and organize the appropriate educational environment for these children, are conscious about maternal health, can provide first aid, prepare and apply educational materials suitable for children's development levels. to train staff who can make institution application by preparing. Our department is trying to provide its students with the best education with its teaching staff. Students of the Department of Child Development are obliged to do a semester practice and 30 working days summer internship at pre-school education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education on the dates determined by the Internship Education Commission.

Graduates who successfully complete the Child Development Associate Degree Program have the opportunity to be employed in preschool education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, private education institutions, pediatric clinics of hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, rehabilitation centers, and institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Family and Social Policies.


Access to Further Studies

Horizontal and vertical transfer is made in line with the relevant legislation of YÖK. Vertical transfer can be made to Child Development Education, Preschool Teaching, Special Education Teaching, Health Management and Social Work undergraduate programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must attend at least 70% of the lessons and at least 80% of the practices in order to register for the classes at the beginning of the term and to enter the final exam. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam (the scores obtained from the measurement tools such as homework, laboratory exam, quiz etc. as midterm grade can also be taken into consideration) to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. It is necessary to get at least 45 points from the final exam. Students who get one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) from a course are considered successful in that course. (DC) and (DD) grades are conditionally successful grades. In order for a student to be successful in a course with DC or DD grades, he / she must have a CGPA of at least 2.0.


Graduation Requirements

To complete the program successfully, all of the courses available in the program (120 ECTS) pass, 4.00 weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 is required to obtain.

Facilities

The current staff of the program includes 4 faculty members with expertise in the fields of Child Development and Education and Psychology. In our department, lessons are carried out in classrooms with projection devices and smart boards, and the gymnastics and dance halls in the Sports Center of our University are also used for drama and game lessons. The fact that our Vocational School and Practical Kindergarten are located in the central campus, close to each other, provides great convenience in holding and conducting applied courses.
