/ ISLAMİC THEOLOGY

History

The Faculty of Theology, which is planned to be opened connected to the University, was officially established with the publication of the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 29.03.2012 and numbered 2012/3055 in the Official Gazette.


Qualification Awarded

Students who have successfully completed all the courses in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS) and have at least a 2.0 GPA of 4.00 are awarded with a bachelor's degree in the discipline.

Specific Admission Requirements

In our country, it is necessary to be successful in the ÖSS exam for university entrance. Introduction to undergraduate programs only depends on the score taken from this exam. Students are chosen in accordance with their result of the exam, they can enter a department they chose. The Higher Education Council (YÖK), an institution attached to the selection and placement center (ÖSYM) place them. ÖSYM takes all applications, groups the applications by score type, sorts the scores from the highest to the lowest, lists all available programs according to the preferred score type and places the students in one of their preferred programs. The selection of foreign students who will enter the universities in our country is made according to the results of a central examination called YGS within a certain quota. Documents required for registration; 1 - High school and equivalent school diploma, 2 - ÖSYM'la placement result document.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions is still at an early stage. For this reason, the recognition of prior learning in all programs of Nevşehir University is not fully initiated. However, exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic semester for courses such as Computer and English which are included in the training plans of the programs. Students who think that these courses provide the expected learning outcomes have the right to take the exams. Students who pass the exam are exempted from the related course.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree in the field of theology, students must successfully complete all the compulsory and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) in the program and obtain at least 2.0 weighted grade point average over 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

Our program consists of academicians who are experts in their field and necessary studies are carried out together with the courses. Our department aims to train specialists who have received basic education in their field and prepare them for graduate education. It also aims to train enough theologians at the national and international level.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 To recognize the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad and his physical and moral attributes and the historical process of the science of hadith, its methodology, problems, interpretation and its cultural value for the life of a Muslim.
PO-2 To have an adequate knowledge of the classical and new religious and political movements in Islamic world.
PO-3 To have a satisfactory knowledge of the history, concepts, institutions, philosophy and main figures of Sufism.
PO-4 To can recite the Quran properly and comment within the framework of scientific measurements.
PO-5 To Evaluate the principles of Islamic faith and problems of Theology within the framework of reason and authentic sources using scientific methods.
PO-6 To have knowledge of Arabic language at the level of understanding classical and modern texts in the field of Islamic Theology and use it in expressing himself/herself in oral and written communication. S/he acquires a solid knowledge of a Western European Language at least at the level of B 1 of the European Language Portfolio, using it to follow the information in the field of Theology and communicate with colleagues.
PO-7 To be able to evaluate Religion and religious issues philosophically, sociologically and psychologically.
PO-8 To be able to evaluate main topics of Islamic law (fiqh) which take place in classical and modern sources, comparing the Islamic law with other legal systems within the framework of comparative law.
PO-9 The ability of defining, fictionalizing and evaluating individual,social and global events and issues and offering solutions to them in accordance with the data of social sciences.
PO-10 The ability of researching all kinds of philosophical,social,psychological and religious problems having individual,social and even global qualities by making use of principal resources and making an analysis and synthesis and reporting them at a scientific level.
PO-11 he ability of gaining language skills enough to read original religious texts and understand them.
PO-12 The ability of following current knowledge and developments in their field with their historical knowledge in religious sciences and makind use of them in solution of the problems.
PO-13 Having Islamic Culture and Tradition formed in the historical process understood with its original qualities and the ability of creating a sense of belonging and responsibility for our historical andd cultural heritage.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students graduated from the Faculty of Theology are employed by The Directorate of Religious Affairs, Ministry of National Education and the translation offices. Upon successful completion of the program, the student can apply for master's and doctoral degrees in the field of theology or other disciplines that accept students from this field.


Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate programs provided that they have a valid grade from ALES and have sufficient knowledge of English.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are subjected to at least 1 midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution to the success grade, midterm exams 40%, the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Students taking one of the (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) letter grades from a course are considered successful.


Graduation Requirements

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree in the field of theology, students must successfully complete all the compulsory and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) in the program and obtain at least 2.0 weighted grade point average over 4.00.
