INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE / TEKLİF EDİLEN KIMYA (DOKTORA)

History

The Department of Chemistry at Nevşehir University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences began offering undergraduate programs in the 2008–2009 academic year and graduate programs in the 2010–2011 academic year. Turkish is the language of education.


Qualification Awarded

Students who successfully complete all the courses available in the curriculum (for a total of 240 ECTS credits), have obtained a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and successfully complete their thesis are awarded a doctoral degree in Chemistry.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates with both undergraduate and graduate degrees can apply to this program. The application requirements for the program are as follows: For graduates, an ALES score of at least 55 and a foreign language score (KPDS, ÜDS, and equivalent exams) should be at least 55. Those who will apply with a bachelor's degree must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 out of 4 and an ALES score of at least 80.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The credits that a student has taken from the graduate courses they have taken from other higher education institutions in the last three years before enrolling in the institute, from those belonging to the department they are enrolled in, can be considered valid for the program they are continuing with the recommendation of the relevant presidency and the decision of the institute board of directors.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Graduates must complete all courses available in the program for at least 24 credits (a total of 60 ECTS) and have at least a 75 on a 100-weighted grade point average. Undergraduates must complete all courses available in the program for at least 48 credits (a total of 120 ECTS) and have at least 75 on a 100-weighted grade point average. After passing the qualifying exam, the students who defend the dissertation that has been prepared in their major receive the PhD degree in Chemistry.


Profile of The Programme

The aim of the Doctor of Philosophy program in Chemistry is to train Doctors of Philosophy who have advanced theoretical and applied knowledge in Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physicochemistry, and Organic chemistry; who are able to conduct literature research on a specific subject; who apply experimental studies on a research topic in the laboratory and evaluate the laboratory results and write a scientific report; who are equipped to work in research institutions; and who act as leaders and have high-level teaching skills.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are subjected to midterm and final exams for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam is 40%, and the final exam is 60%. All examinations are evaluated out of 100 points. On one course students who gets one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) considered as successful.


Graduation Requirements

To complete the PhD program, students who have a master's degree must complete a total of not less than 24 national credits, including at least seven of the department seminar courses, and pass the qualifying examination successfully and complete the thesis.
