INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES / TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE (MASTER'S DEGREE)

History

The Department of Turkish Language & Literature was established under the Institute of Social Sciences of Nevşehir University in 2009-2010 academic year, offering graduate studies in Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Diplomas in Turkish Language & Literature are given to the students who have succesfully completed their program.

Specific Admission Requirements

The primary and reserve candidates are admitted based on the average of the points in bachelor's degree in the relevant fields for master's and doctoral degree programs (Grade Point Average), scores on ALES (Test for Postgraduate Education) and on a foreign language proficiency test . Required Documents for Registration; 1 – Bachelor’s diploma, 2 – Original copy of ALES test result, 3 – ID card 4 – Original copy of a foreign language proficiency test result ( ÜDS, KPDS etc.) 5 - Certificate of Military Status 6 - CV


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of previous learning in the higher education institutions in Turkey is still in the process of being implemented; therefore, the recognition of previous learning in all of the departments in Nevşehir University has yet to be implemented.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

It is required to obtain a weighed average point of 2.00 out of 4.00 in order to complete all of the courses in the program successfully (for a total of 90-120 ECTS). Students are given their Master's Degree Diplomas in the field of Turkish Language & Literature who: - have completed the courses of at least 120 ECTS on the graduate studies program of the department or the other related departments. - have got a weighed average point of 70 out of 100. - have successfully done a thesis defense before a selected jury on a topic they have prepared.


Profile of The Programme

Our program consists of academic staff expert on their field of study and the necessary studies are carried out along with the courses. Modern Turkish Language & Literature, Old Turkic Language & Literature and Folk Literature are the fields of study in the department. The objectives of the program are to train graduate students bearing all the liabilities and authorization granted by law so that they could become individuals who can analyse, synthesize, make conclusions, create original works of art by making use of scientific research methods and put across their knowledge in their field of study to the science world. Moreover, the program aims to help them achieve success on possible vocational tests and make their living by following their studies particularly in the teaching field in both public and private sectors. In addition, it aims to train its students so that they grow skilled and well-equipped specialists both nationally and internationally in the field of Turkish Language & Literature.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of this program are entitled to be employed as a teacher in his/her own field on the staff of MEB (The Ministry Of National Education) provided that they have got the necessary scores on KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Test). Moreover, they are entitled to follow their studies further as well as to work as civil cervants in other public sectors or print & visual media.


Access to Further Studies

Students who have completed their MA are entitled to access to further studies provided that they have got the necessary scores on ALES test and sufficient knowledge of English.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students have to sit two tests, the prior being called the midterm and the latter being called the final exam at the end of either term. The midterm exam has a weight of 40 % while the final one has a weight of % 60. All the tests are assessed on a-100 point scale. Students who have got (AA),(BA),(BB),(CB) or (CC) in a course are considered successful.


Graduation Requirements

In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary that a student complete courses totalling 120 ECTS credits by getting a grade point average of at least 70 points out of 100 and finish his/her thesis.

Facilities

The teaching activities are carried out in fully equipped classrooms (computers, projectors and intenet access) by 2 professors, one associate profesor, 5 assistant professors and 8 research assistants in the department.
