The Faculty of Science and Letters of Nevşehir University was founded on May, 17, 2007 based on the law code 5662. The Department of Biology has been offering undergraduate studies since 2008 and graduate studies since 2010. Offering day classes, the department started to offer evening classes in 2009-2010 academic year. It offers courses in Turkish. |
Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 240 ECTS) and have a weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are awarded an undergraduate diploma in Biology. |
Bachelor's Degree |
It is necessary that students pass the ÖSS exam (Student Selection Examination). The students make choices to be admitted to the programs they want to attend and send their preference form to ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). ÖSYM takes all the applications lists the scores the students have received from highest to lowest and announces the current programs according to the scores placing the students in the programs they have preferred. On the other hand, foreign national students are placed in the universities across Turkey as per the scores they received on the central exam named YÖS (Foreign Student Exam) Documents required for registration: 1- Diplomas of High Schools and their equivalents 2- The Result of Student Placement Exam by ÖSYM |
Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions are still in progress. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer Sciences and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson. |
Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 240 ECTS) and have weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are awarded an undergraduate diploma in Biology. |
The Biology Department mainly aims to train students so that they will graduate as from the biology department with the full power and responsibility officially granted upon them having the capability and skills of defining, explaining, implementing, decision- making and instructing the basic principles of general biology and its four sub-departments, which are General Biology, Molecular Biology, Botany and Zoology. The Department of Biology carries out its activities under the Dean’s Office, which is subordinate to the Rector’s Office. It brings up students so that they can be employed wherever biology is involved. TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), DPT (State Planning Organization), Ministries of Agriculture & Village Affairs as well as Environment & Forestry, research institutes, associations of graduates and biologists are among the institutions with which the Department of Biology interacts and wants to deepen its relations with. With the faculty members and researchers it has, our department does its best to offer quality courses in biology. There are projects being carried out in our department in collaboration with BAP (Scientific Research Projects) and TUBITAK, which encourages our students to study and carry out research in a positive environment. Moreover, it gives eager and successful students the opportunity to take part in laboratory research whereby they are encouraged to follow their graduate studies and to make their living as an academician. The subsequent courses offered in the department are built on the knowledge the students have learned in such courses as physics, chemistry and mathematics. |

It is necessary that every student enroll in the courses at the beginning of each term. They have to attend 70 % of the theoretical courses and 80 % of the practical courses in order to take the final exam. They are required to take at least 1 mid-term exam and a final exam for each lesson. The midterm exam (It is also possible to add the marks that students get from homework, quizzes, laboratory to the midterm exam result) contributes 40 % while the final has a share of 60 % on the pass mark. All of the exams are scored on a 100 scale. Students have to get at least 45 points on the final exam. They are considered successful in a lesson provided that they have got (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) or (CC). Students with (DC) or (DD) scores are also considered successful on condition that they have a grade point average of at least 2.00. |
Students have to pass all the lessons in the course (240 ECTS credits), get a weighed grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete their thesis in order to accomplish the program. |
Full-time |
Our department offers courses with 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors, 4 Research Assistants and 1 Specialist. Each classroom has a projector and a capacity of 45 students. There are 2 laboratories for students, 5 laboratories for research, and 2 greenhouses at the disposal of our staff and students.
